The Section 42 notice process for lease extensions in the UK remains largely unchanged under the new government, but a key reform has eliminated the previous two-year ownership requirement for leaseholders. This means leaseholders can now initiate a lease extension or freehold purchase immediately upon becoming the registered owner of the leasehold, without having to wait two years.<\/p>

We are currently awaiting new directions from the Government in relation to further leasehold reform and lease extension procedures.
